The best advice I could give your friend is to read, read, read (including books on scriptwriting - comic book and otherwise) as well as write, write, write (a lot of it is simply learning from experience). Their publisher/editor should be a good resource as well. Google "comic book writing (or scripting)" and you'll find some handy websites too...J.
