BROTHERS AND SISTERS
With Teen Titans Go #53 coming out later this month, I thought it would be a good time for a look behind the scenes at some of Todd Nauck's new character designs for the issue...

Meet Kid Kold and Ice Skate! They're TTG's take on Captain Cold and Golden Glider. See them face off against Kid Flash and Jinx in a short story co-plotted by Todd.

Since we've already got a "siblings" theme going here, how about a look at a few more pages out of Todd's sketchbook...

In case you missed it, Blackfire (Teen Tyrants version) appeared in TTG #48, Geo-Force saw some action in #51, and Wildfire was introduced in #46.

Hi... Mr.J.Torres
Teen Tyrants appeared in #48,not #49.
By the way.
I'm a Taiwanese.

"Taiwan? where is there?"
maybe it is your first question.
But it's not point.

In fact, TTG series has lots of fans in Asia.like Chinese,Japan and Taiwan.

It's sad for us when we learn that TTG series will have a final issue.

But maybe it will not happen,we hope so,maybe TTG just take a rest until season 6 be aired on TV!

Hey J.,

James Harvey from THE WORLD'S FIENST. I was wondering if you are interested in doing a small Q & A with the site soon, concerning TTG! and LOSH, in the near future. I can't find your contact info, so I'll leave my email and I hope to hear from you:

I'm a member of World's Finest too, and please agree to the interview, J! :D It would be awesome to hear your thoughts on the whole run of TTG! and any plans that never came to fruition.

Nice pics.

Hey, Mr. Torres? I was wondering: is there any way to buy the first five digests of TTG! anymore? I went to Amazon, but they're only selling them "new and used," and not direct from their site. This is a real shame, because I am really interested in digest #5, and I'm sad to see it's no longer there considering it's relatively recent (I think).

And anonymous, we don't know if there will be a season 6...unfortunately, the people who were working on the show got word that it was only signed for five seasons, and they had to quit working on their plans for number six. I think TitansTower has an interview on what could have been.

James, you can drop me a line at jtorres@jtorresonline.com

Asianblossom, it's getting harder and harder to find the digests... the only thing I can suggest is check bookstores or perhaps eBay.

Great drawings, JT!

BTW, since Kid Kold and Ice Kate are the young versions of Captain Cold and Golden Glider, is Kwiz Kid then a young Edward Nygma i.e. the future Bat-villain The Riddler? Please let me (and other Riddler-fans know)!

I really need to know!!!

J. Torres said...

Actually, at this point in Robin's career, the Riddler would have already debuted as a Bat-villain, right? Let's call Kwiz Kid (originally called Kid Riddle)... Riddler's long lost nephew ;)

Ah, you have a point there, Mr. Torres. Thanks for your reply! :D

Actually, when I wrote that "quick" post, I had in mind that the Teen Titans "anime" took place before Batman The Animated Series (BTAS). Please let me explain my theories:

When the Riddler debuted in that series (the episode If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?), Robin was already about 18-19 years old. My theory was that he was 13-15 when he founded the Titans, because he looked like a young Tim Drake, who himself debuted at the age of 13 (according to the spin-off series The New Batman Adventures).

Another thought that I had, was that Edward Nygma depicted in BTAS looked maybe one or two years older than Robin. This would be making sense, since Kwiz and Robin have a few years difference between them (when I read issue 15, I had the impression that Kwiz was some years older than the Boy wonder).

Another fact is the relationship between Kwiz and Kitten. Nygma is a Gothamite, which I think Kitten also is since her father, Thomas van Cleer aka Killer Moth, fought Batman in Gotham. Maybe they were already acquainted with each other then (like Kid Kold was acquainted with "Lucky" Jinx). They maybe even went to school together there.

The reason why Killer Moth suddenly moved away with his daughter to Jump City is of course unclear. But I wouldn't be surprised if the reason was that Moth was an unsuccessful villain who failed to defeat the Dark Knight many times. This lead to that all criminals in Gotham never took him seriously. That's why he wanted World Domination, I think, to show the criminals that he himself was successful and shouldn't be laughed at.

Another reason why I thought "Kwiz = a young Riddler" were the young Kid Kold and Ice Kate. Captain Cold and Golden Glider were in fact enemies to Barry Allen's Flash in the beginning, and not to Wally West's. Wally never took the title of the Flash until Barry's death in the Crisis. This leads back to your comment at this point in Robin's career, the Riddler would have already debuted as a Bat-villain. Captain Cold should then in that case already have debuted as a Flash-villain, and not a Kid Flash-villain.

I apologize a lot for my long post, I had hoped very much that Kwiz really was Edward. Thank you again, Mr. Torres for your comment on one of my favorite villains!

And thanks for Teen Titans Go!. I really enjoy reading them.

Kold and Kate were actually Todd's idea, so maybe consult him about how they fit into the "continuity" ;)

Thanks for the kind words!

You are so welcome, Mr. Torres! :D
When the TT animated series stopped after season five, Teen Titans Go! "was" kind of season six etc. to me. So please continue with Teen Titans Go! Please don't stop with this great comic book-series!

Sorry for asking, but where and how can I consult Mr. Todd about my theories earlier?

Hi again! I meant Mr. Nauk when I wrote "Mr. Todd". My apologies!
